An early, original specification 3.8 FHC, right-hand drive UK car with matching numbers and just 58,000 warranted miles from new. Supplied with a 'Jaguar Heritage Certificate' and all original tool roll. Number 338 of 1,798 produced. Supplied in exceptional condition throughout with an extensive history file.
The car has had just 5 previous owners over the years and can be traced back through the history file. Supplied originally in Silver Grey by Sanderson and Holmes of Derby on 19th April 1962 to the first owner who owned the car for 3 years.
The second owner did the bulk of the cars journey covering up to 50,000 miles during his 15 year ownership. It was at this point the colour changed to Carmen Red and black leather interior.
The third keeper retained the car for 8 years and sold it with a recorded 52,500 miles.
It was at this point that the car was sold and moved to Wales where the 4th owner had the car meticulously restored by 'Merlins Car Restorations.' The car was shot blasted, new wings, sills, boot floor and floor pans fitted as well as having the engine rebuilt and Moss gearbox overhauled. The work was completed in May 1989 and after the restoration, the car was then the subject car in a book written by 'Phillip Porter' called 'The Original E-Type' published in 1990 by 'Bay View Books' He kept the car a further 13 years and it was an exhibit in the 'Mouldsworth Motor Museum" near Chester.
Owner number 5 acquired the car in 2001 and owned through until 2015 and covered just 1,400 miles. Since its restoration, the car has been in somewhat of a timewarp having been consistently dry stored and little over 5,000 miles driven and remains essentially the same. A true testament to the craftmanship that went into works carried out.
I would not pitch the car as concours but it is a very solid example with a mature patina that presents and drives beautifully.
